Born in Avellaneda, a suburb of Buenos Aires, Gavito started his professional career in 1965 with popular show Asi canta Buenos Aires. One of the most commanding figures of the rebirth of tango during the nineties was maestro Carlos Gavito.
Well known as one of the last milongueros, he had earned a great respect in the tango community around the world. He had a very personal style of dancing and teaching. As a tango teacher,he was often criticized for being irrationally fervent about the 'abrazo'and the 'walking', which he felt were the heart and soul of Argentine Tango.
He joined the cast Forever Tango, the most successful tango show that exists anywhere today on December 1995, dancing and choreographing two classics of the show with Marcela Duran.
An icon in the history of the Tango dancers, with over 40 years of experience dancing and teaching tango he dedicated his entire life to the perfection of dancing tango, searching for the best way to transmit his huge dance experience and knowledge.
Carlos Gavito, the master of the 'less is more' school of thought passed away On the 1st of July 2005 .
Today, former actress Eva Norvind is making a movie about the tango in Argentina, the tango movie is called: Gavito, su vida y su tango. She started it in may 2005 and hopes to finish it soon.
