Eliane Devries (Catherine Deneuve) is the powerful owner of a rubber-tree plantation in Indochine in the early 1930s. She circulates with haughtiness and charm among the local high society and also in the decadent french aristocracy, almost unaware of the rebellion that is about to take Indochine by storm. Eliane falls in love with french officer Jean-Baptiste (Vincent Pérez). The problems start when her daughter Camille (Linh Dan Pham) falls in love with the same man...
Indochine is one of those movies that are great in many ways. The plot keeps you interested, the production is epic-like, the historical period is well reproduced and the wonderful photography captures perfectly the beautiful locations where indochine was filmed. On top of all that the wonderful Catherine Deneuve in another great interpretation. For all this Indochine won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1993.
